The definition of a tourist place varies from person to person. The majority of people prefer a destination like Manali, Mussoorie, or Shimla to go on vacation but if you are in love with an “Offbeat Destination” then you must explore chopta. I am going to share complete Chopta travel guide in this blog post.
Chopta majorly serves as a base station for Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek but if you don’t want to trek and only looking for a peaceful destination with no crowd then also this is a good place to go.
This is a beautiful and picturesque town surrounded by lash green forest and Himalayas which makes it one of the favourite destinations for trekking lovers.
The beauty of this place makes it a preferable tourist place for an entire year. We visited Chopta in Mid of August’22 and it mesmerised us with its scenic beauty.
Where is Chopta Located
Chopta is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, in the northern region of the country. Specifically, it is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, which is part of the Garhwal region.
It’s an isolated hill station, surrounded by the beautiful Himalayas, and is located at an altitude of 2,680 meters above sea level. It is situated in the laps of the Western Himalayas and is a part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. It’s situated around 42km north of the popular hill station of Ukhimath and around 270km from the state capital of Dehradun.
How to reach chopta
Reaching Chopta is an adventure in itself, as it is a remote hill station located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. However, there are several options for visitors to reach Chopta.
By car or bike:
If you are travelling by your own vehicle (car or bike) then it’s very easy to reach. Travel time complete depends upon your driving skill and how long you can drive in one go. If you are travelling from Delhi then it will take around 12-15 hours to reach chopta by car.
You can take the route from Haridwar – Rishikesh – Devprayag – Srinagar – Rudraprayag – Ukhimath – Chopta. This route is the most convenient and quickest way to reach Chopta.
By Bus:
Chopta is also well-connected by road and can be reached by bus from major cities in the region. Visitors can take a bus from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun and then take a shared taxi or jeep to reach Chopta.
By Train:
Another option is to take a train to Haridwar or Rishikesh and then take a bus or taxi to Chopta. The nearest railway station is in Rishikesh, which is around 245 km away.
By Air:
The nearest airport to Chopta is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 235km away. From there, visitors can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Chopta.

Chandrashila Trek
After reaching Tungnath temple we started our trek to Chandrashila which is 1.5 kms from the temple. After 5kms of trek no doubt we all were very exhausted for our next trek but we climbed the mountain and reached the top and believe me it worth visiting this beautiful mountain peak. As per sprituls book at this place Lord Ram meditated after defeating Ravana. At the top of the peak you will see beautiful temple dedicated to the goddess Ganga.

Deoria Tal
On our next day we visited to Deoria Tal which is no doubt a heaven on earth. Deoria tal is located 3 kms ahead from sari village. To reach sari village we left our camp early in the morning and reached beautiful village sari for our next trek.
From sari village it is situated 3kms upwords which you have to trek or else you can take horse ride as well but we choosed to trek and this became one of the best trekking experience for us. This rout start from village where you will walk inside the mesmerizing village in all your route to Tal.

Chopta Weather
The weather of chopta remains pleasant during summer and freezing during winter. this city receive heavy snowfall in the month of January, February and March.
Even the roads of chopta get completely covered in snow and it’s almost impossible to reach there by your own car.
Spring starts in April and remains till June and this is the best time to visit Chopta. Chopta start experiencing monsoons in July and August. Landslide is common in this season so you should avoid going there during the monsoon.
Besides landslides, you will also not get the best view during this season as the weather remain cloudy. If you are planning to go for Tungnath and Chandrashila trek then you may find the slippery road and you need to carry a raincoat which will destroy the complete trek
Best Time to visit Chopta
The best time to visit Chopta is between the months of March and June and September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasant, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures. The spring season (March-June) is particularly beautiful as the valley is covered with various colorful flowers.
In the months of July to August, the region receives heavy rainfall and the trekking routes are closed. However, if you are a monsoon lover, this is the time you can enjoy the lush green forests and beautiful waterfalls.
In the winter months of December to February, the temperature can drop to freezing point, making it quite cold and snowy, and trekking routes are closed during this time as well. However, it is also the time when you can enjoy snowfall and can enjoy skiing.
Overall, the best time to visit Chopta depends on what you want to do and what type of weather you prefer.
Chopta Itinerary
Day 0: Start your trip from Delhi by 4 PM
Day 1: Visit Ganga Sangam at Devprayag- Reach Chopta- Overnight Stay
Day 2: Start your trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila early in the morning, reach your camp by evening, and do the night stay.
Day 3: Trek to Deoria Taal – Departure for Delhi
Day 4: Reach Delhi
