Lansdowne is one of the nearest hill stations to visit from Delhi. Lansdowne hill station is still not very much crowded like Shimla, Mussoorie, Manali

Lansdowne is located at an elevation of 1700 m above sea level surrounded by thick oak trees and pine forests. It is a popular tourist destination since the Britishers came to India.

Lansdowne Hill station has a very good drivable road from Delhi. It will take around 6-7 hours to reach by your own car.

We left from delhi at 4 AM and reached to Lansdowne around 12 PM. Lansdowne is so picture perfect place that you can’t stop yourself from clicking photograph at every few kms. So, I suggest you to take some buffer time than what Google maps shows you.

It was a suddenly planned weekend trip so we didn’t book any hotels. After reaching Lansdowne we couldn’t find any good hotel. After searching a lot we found Nayar Valley Retreat located at a distance of 30 km from Lansdowne. But the location and stay were amazing.

After reaching the resort, we took a bath in the river flowing backside of the resort and it freshens us completely. You can watch the full video below:

Next day we checked out from the resort and went to explore the Lansdowne hill station. It was an amazing drive amidst the cloudy weather.

Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple

Tadkeshwar Mahadev temple is located at a distance of 38 km from Lansdowne at a height of 1800 m from sea level.

There is an interesting story behind this temple. As per the legends, Tarkasur has meditated and worshipped Lord Shiva at this location to get the boon.

Happy with Tarkasur worship Lord shiva give him the boon of immortality. As per the boon, no one can kill Tarkasur except Lord Shiva’s son.

But soon after getting the boon, Tarkasur started killing saints and destroying the peace of earth. Harassed with Tarkasur, saints and sages reached out to Lord Shiva seeking his help.

Lord Shiva married Parvati and their son Kartikeya killed Tarkasur. At the time of his death, Tarkasur was pardoned for his wrongdoing and Mahadev attached his name and gave him the boon to pray in Kalyug also.

Due to limited time we couldn’t visit this temple but you should definitely give a visit to this place.
